In 1926, Slippery Rock University became a four-year teachers college, it was at this point in time that the Pennsylvania Department of Education assigned the institution an academic focus in health and physical education and it was in that concentration that the institution soon achieved a national reputation for excellence. The Physical and Health Education Department continues to be a well respected leader in developing future leaders in the fields of health, physical activity and physical education. The Physical Education Department offers one graduate degree, two undergraduate programs and three minors:
