Summer Reading Program

THE PURPOSE of SRU’s Summer Reading Program is to orient new students to our academic community by having a common reading experience with fellow classmates, faculty, staff and upper-class students.

THE GOAL of the summer reader is to engage students in discussions, projects and co-curricular activities generated by a one-book experience.

THE PROCESS

· THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM will be introduced to both students and parents at the March, April and June Orientation sessions where the book will be distributed to all new freshmen.

· A PRESENTATION will take place as part of our freshman Weekend of Welcome (WOW) by President Robert Smith.

· CARRY-OVER into the fall 2009 semester will take the form of further discussion and assignments in FYRST Seminar and other courses as well as projects and co-curricular activities by interested departments, organizations and residence halls.

If you would like to suggest a book for the Summer Reading Program please complete and return the RECOMMENDATION FORM.
