Background Information
Our nation has asserted a commitment to providing educational
opportunity for all Americans regardless of race, ethnic background
or economic circumstance. TRIO is Educational Opportunity for
Low-Income and Disabled Americans. TRIO consists of the
Upward Bound Program, UB Math/Science, Student Support Services,
Talent Search, EOC, and McNair. Student Support Services
Program participants are more than twice as likely to remain in
college than those students from similar backgrounds who did not
participate in the program.
Program Description
The Student Support Services Program is a federally funded TRIO
program that addresses the needs of students on probation or
returning from suspension. The program provides opportunities
for academic development, assists students with basic college
requirements, and serves to motivate students toward the successful
completion of their postsecondary education. The goal of the
Student Support Services Program is to increase the college
retention and graduation rates of its participants and help
students make the transition from one level of higher education to
the next.
Eligibility
* Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a program of
postsecondary education at a grantee institution.
* First-generation college student.
* Low-income student (family's taxable income for the
previous year did not exceed 150%
of the poverty level amount).
* Student with a documented disability.
Services
The faculty in the Student Support Services Program assist students
with basic study skills, academic advising, personal counseling,
career guidance, mentoring, tutorial services, time management,
goal setting, retention and many other personal services to help
each individual achieve success.

If you meet the eligibility requirements and would like to apply
for acceptance in the Student Support Services Program simply click
on the program
application. Fill out the form and turn it in to the
Academic Services Office, 106 Bailey Library. Your
eligibility will be verified for acceptance in the program.

Learning Strategies Course
1 credit
The purpose of the Learning Strategies course is to assist
students who have experienced or are experiencing academic
difficulty. The course provides a structure in which you can
explore your motivation, learn to set goals, practice new skills
for learning course material, and gain the support of other
students in the same academic situation as you.
