A Message to the Parents of Our Students
Many students don't realize the variety of services and resources provided by our office. As a parent, you can encourage your son or daughter to become familiar with Career Services in order to get the most out of their Slippery Rock education and be best prepared to tackle life after graduation.
The following is a suggested timeline for students to follow:
- Choose a major/career (Freshman - Sophomore)

- Meet with a career counselor to explore options.

- Research career possibilities through O*NET.

- Take personalized inventories to identify your strengths and then find and explore related majors and careers with Discover.

- Please contact our office to receive an access token and to discuss your inventory results from Discover.
- Develop professional skills through experience (Freshman - Senior)

- Work, volunteer, or engage in activities related to your career interest. This will help build your resume and clarify your career goals.
- Prepare to be a professional (Sophomore - Senior)

- Continually update your resume, become comfortable writing cover letters, practice your interviewing skills and etiquette, and keep professional thank-you notes on hand.
- Get related experience through an internship (Junior - Senior)
