SRU presents �Five Guys Named Moe� musical March 29 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. � A wild cast of characters will jazz up the house with electrifying energy when Slippery Rock University presents the Tony-Award winning musical �Five Guys Named Moe� March 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Miller Auditorium.

            Irving Street Rep., a professional company from New Jersey that specializes in musical and theater entertainment, will stage the musical.

            �This is more like a swinging party than a show. You can�t help but catch the infectious spirit,� said Deborah Baker, manager of University events.  It is the fourth and final event in SRU�s 2007-2008 Performing Arts Series.

            �Five Guys Named Moe� follows the blue soul of Nomax. Alone and flat broke after getting dumped by his girl, Nomax encounters Big Moe, Four-Eyed Moe, Eat Moe, No Moe and Little Moe when they emerge from his 1930s-style radio to cajole, wheedle and comfort him with the whimsical hit songs of Louis Jordan.

            The two-act musical, a tribute to Jordan, one of the most beloved song-writing talents of the 20th century, will keep your feet tapping to such songs as �Let the Good Times Roll,� �Don�t Let the Sun Catch You Crying,� �Choo Choo Ch-Boogie,� �Is You Is Or Is You Ain�t My Baby� and �Caldonia.�  

            The cast involves the audience throughout the show, calling on them to sing and inviting them onstage before the intermission to form a conga line. The line typically weaves its way through the theater and out to the lobby.

            �It�s a positive, fun-loving show � a real mood lifter,� Baker said.

            �Five Guys Named Moe� made its debut in England in 1990. It has won two Tony�s and played to international acclaim in the U.S and Europe.

            Tickets for the musical are $20 for adults; $18 for those 17 and under and 62; and older and $8 for SRU students. Call 724.738.2091.

            AVI Foodsystems, SRU�s contract food vendor, will offer a pre-performance meal. The menu includes farm-raised catfish with lemon caviar mayo, Boston bib salad with teardrop tomatoes, chicken scaloppini over roasted corn with wild rice and New Orleans chocolate pecan pie for dessert. Glenn Utsch, SRU assistant professor of music, will offer a 15-minute introduction on Jordan and play a few of his songs on piano before the dinner.

            The pre-concert meal, separate from the performance tickets, is $23 per person and $18 for SRU students. Call 724.738.2840, Ext. 101.
