Slippery Rock University is very aware of current concerns in the nation regarding the safety of citizens. We continually monitor the news media and advisories from various organizations regarding possible risks to our campus community.

Last year, at the request of its President, SRU formed a Task Force of subject matter experts with the responsibility to update its Emergency Operations Plan. This comprehensive plan includes relationships and coordination with appropriate local and state agencies.

Our Emergency Preparedness Plan provides guidelines for the most serious scenarios and provides for housing and caring for students in the event of a wide range of potential emergencies affecting the well-being of the university and the community. We are prepared to house students in a secure location, if necessary, for several days, or longer.

Slippery Rock has its own communications systems and backup generators. We can communicate in emergencies with students and other members of the university community. If necessary, our campus is small enough to allow professional staff to walk to each residence hall and provide emergency information and directions to students. During emergencies, Slippery Rock will update its web site to keep students, parents and others informed.

We believe Slippery Rock is well prepared to handle emergencies involving the well-being of its students and campus community.
