» December Graduate One Of Two In Nation Selected For Disney Internship
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Disney’s Wide World of Sports selected Slippery Rock University athletic training graduate Shannon Munday of Rew for one of its two spring internships in Orlando, Fla.  Munday, who graduated Dec. 13, will assess injuries to baseball, softball and lacrosse players.

» SRU's Ron Gargasz, Carter Administration Official, Presented Environmental Award
 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Ron Gargasz, director of conservation for the Jimmy Carter administration and a founder of the sustainable environmental movement at Slippery Rock University, has received the 2003 Western Pennsylvania Environmental Award for his life’s work of promoting organic farming. Gargasz received the award  from Dominion and the Pennsylvania Environmental Council.

 WEXFORD, Pa. – Students from western Pennsylvania who want to become teachers have more options following today’s signing of education agreements between Slippery Rock University and the Community College of Allegheny County, the Community College of Beaver County and Butler County Community College.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Tony Norman, award-winning, general interest columnist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette will deliver Slippery Rock University’s winter commencement address as the university bestows graduate hoods to 71 master’s degree candidates and awards diplomas to more than 420 undergraduates in 1:30 p.m. Dec. 13 ceremonies.

The Slippery Rock University Institute for Community, Service-Learning and Nonprofit Leadership’s expansion of its “Project Christmas Elf” into Lawrence County will provide hundreds of Lawrence and Butler county children with a memorable Christmas.  NEW CASTLE, Pa. – Make A Difference Day – the nation’s largest day of service – will be marked Saturday [Oct. 25] in New Castle with a major project benefiting underprivileged youth and their families. Volunteers will refurbish the second floor of Slippery Rock University’s I CARE House, which provides tutoring to low-income children, lunches for senior citizens and dozens of other community revitalization programs.

» Automatic Heart Defibrillators Distributed Across SRU Campus
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- In an effort to help save lives following onset of a sudden heart attack, Slippery Rock University has made available 14 automatic external defibrillators, known as "AEDs," at high traffic locations throughout campus. The units have also become standard equipment for campus police cruisers.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Eight Slippery Rock University students have graduated from the recent Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps National Advanced Leadership Camp held at Ft. » SRU Drummer Grows as Musician During Job at Disneyland
A new twist on the tale played itself out this summer when Slippery Rock University senior Patrick Kennedy, of Butler, qualified to became the drummer for Disneyland’s 2003 All-American College Band. Only 20 college students in the nation passed Disney’s audition to join the elite band for 11 weeks.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The American Therapeutic Recreation Association has named Slippery Rock University senior Amanda Breindel one of eight top therapeutic recreation students in the nation.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – T he man for whom Slippery Rock University’s Kraus Hall is named, a recipient of an honorary doctor of laws degree from the university and a generous donor to The Rock, Stanley Kraus died Aug. 27 in a Boca Raton, Fla., hospital. Originally from New Castle, he had most recently made his home in Florida. He was 81.

   SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – For the second consecutive year, the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation has awarded a grant to Slippery Rock University to fund scholarships for five students with spinal cord injury. SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. --- Slippery Rock University trustees heard Interim President Robert Smith predict that this fall’s incoming freshman class may prove to be “the most extraordinary in SRU’s modern history.” Enrollment records at this stage already project a 43 percent increase over last year in the number of students who are in the top 25 percent of their high school class. The average SAT score for those who have paid a deposit to hold a space for enrollment is 1018, up from last year’s 977.
