This policy is applicable to all students (undergraduate, graduate, credit and non-credit) and all terms (regular semesters, mini-courses, workshops).  It applies only to fees paid directly to the University.  It does not apply to fees paid to other organizations, such as off-campus housing and insurance.

WITHDRAWAL from the University on or BEFORE the First Day of Class of a Semester.  All fees paid for the semester, will be refunded, except the following: The $25 Application Fee.  For information concerning any refund, if applicable, for the enrollment deposit, please contact the Admission’s Office. A. Withdrawal from the University means that the student is withdrawing from all courses for a semester.  When a student withdraws from some courses, but remains in the University, the refund is computed as in the Overpayment section.  The student must send a signed letter stating that he/she is withdrawing from the university.  New and transfer students; send your letter to the admissions office.  Upper-class students; send your letter to the Office of Retention Services, 116 North Hall.

WITHDRAWAL from the university AFTER the First Day of Class of a Semester:  The student must complete the official withdrawal procedure.  The charge will be computed as follows, and any amount paid beyond the charge will be refunded.  Any portion of a week attended will count as a full week, beginning with the first day of class and ending with the date of withdrawal (excluding recesses).  The following fees will not be refunded:  Application fee, Installment Payment plan fee, and Late Payment fees. 

Tuition, Academic Enhancement, Technology Fee, Health Service Fee, General Service Fee, Rec Center Fee, University Union Fee, Residence Hall and Meal Plans will be calculated as follows, for students voluntarily withdrawing from SRU:

Suspension or dismissal from SRU other than for reasons of academic standing:  No refund will be made to any such student; all money paid will be forfeited.   Full refund of tuition shall be granted to students who are military reservists or members of the National Guard and are ordered to active military service by the President of the United States.

OVERPAYMENT OF ACCOUNT WITH THE STUDENT REMAINING IN THE UNIVERSITY:  When a student’s account is overpaid for one of the following reasons, the charge will be computed as follows and any amount paid beyond the charge will be refunded and must be requested in writing

1. REDUCTION OF THE NUMBER OF CREDIT HOURS WHEN THE STUDENT IS PAYING ON AN HOURLY BASIS:  The percentage of the tuition charged for the hours dropped will be adjusted via the weekly percentage listed in the above table. 

Return of Title IV Funds (Federal Aid/Loans)

The federal government requires SRU to return Financial Aid (Title IV) money to the appropriate Title IV programs for any student withdrawing through 60% of the semester.  Students withdrawing Title IV aid may owe the university a balance one the aid is returned.  Title IV aid must be returned to the Title IV program before any refund can be returned to a student.
