Take the Mystery Out of Freshman Year!
Your
transition to college life can be challenging and even stressful.
The academic and social advantages provided by joining a LCC can
help reduce that stress. Almost 94% of the 2004 freshman class
enrolled in the FYRST Seminar and 72% enrolled in a Learning
Community Cluster connected to their major or a liberal studies
course.
In LCC, you
will attend three classes with the same group of students, which
will enable you to meet and make new friends easily, form study
groups, participate in class discussions, and better acquaint
yourself with your professor. Research has shown that the more a
student connects to the university, the more successful they are in
their college experience.
How does it work?
*You enroll in three classes (7 credit hours) with the same group
of people in addition to your remaining credits for the
semester.
*One of those three classes is the FYRST Seminar Class which helps
students in adjusting to college life.
What do students say about Learning Community Clusters and the
FYRST-Year Seminar?
"The LCC provided me with a chance to get to know people a lot
sooner than in other classes that I had."
"Most students seemed to get adjusted sooner socially. They had
someone to go to dinner or lunch with. This is a good experience
for all freshmen."
"I became familiar with the services, resources and staff at SRU
sooner than my friends who were not in a cluster." |
