SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Chinese cuisine, games, entertainment and door prizes will be included when Slippery Rock University celebrates the 2014 Chinese New Year from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Feb. 1, at the Slippery Rock Township Building.
SRU students, faculty, staff and local residents organized the free "Year of the Horse" program.
SRU students will perform Peking opera songs, a Chinese Han dance and music on a Chinese instrument. A guest performer will present music on a two-string Chinese instrument.
The event marks the "Year of the Horse" in the Chinese horoscope. "Year of the Horse" runs from Jan. 31 to Feb. 18, 2015. Chinese New Year includes many traditions, including presents, decorations, food and traditional clothing.
SRU's Chinese Cultural Association, Modern China Center and Asian Studies Program are the sponsors.
The Slippery Rock Township Building is at 155 Branchton Road.
SRU offers four courses in Chinese within the Asian Studies Program.
