Michael Ignelzi earns Diamond Honoree award

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Michael Ignelzi, a Slippery Rock University associate professor and graduate coordinator of counseling and development, has received a Diamond Honoree award from the American College Personnel Association. Only 17 individuals nationwide received the award, which recognizes leadership and scholarship.
The ACPA said Ignelzi shows a caring attitude toward his students. His 33 years in higher education, combined with outstanding practitioner strategies, give him the right ingredients for successfully educating future student affairs professionals.
A Diamond Honoree award ceremony will take place March 28 at the ACPA convention in Baltimore, Md.
Ignelzi joined SRU in 1994. “I came to Slippery Rock University as the first full-time faculty member in the student affairs in higher education master’s degree program to teach in and redesign this important program,” he said. “The student affairs program educates individuals to effectively lead campus services for college students aimed at supporting their developmental needs and learning.”
Ignelzi received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, his master’s degree in student affairs administration from The Ohio State University and his doctorate in human development and psychology from Harvard University.
The ACPA, based in Washington, D.C., supports and fosters college student learning through the dissemination of knowledge.
