SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Faculty and students in Slippery Rock University’s department of modern languages and cultures have voted to rename the Modern Languages and Cultures Scholarship the Jack Hill Jr. Memorial Scholarship honoring the SRU student from Roselle, N.J., who died during a basketball conditioning session Sept. 10.

“This is our way of honoring a young man that we consider was a truly great life,” said Ana Maria Caula,” department chair.

The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a Spanish or French major or a student minoring in an Asian, Russian or German language and planning to travel abroad during the spring or fall semester.

Contributors to the scholarship are members of the modern languages and cultures department faculty and friends of the department.

“Jack was an excellent student and a wonderful person, always considerate and kind to faculty and students. He was a joy to be with. His passing leaves a void in the lives and hearts of all those who knew him,” Caula said.
