SRU Good News for Jan. 31, 2012


National Collegiate Baseball Writers honor SRU 5 players


Ryan Oglseby, an undeclared major from Wexford and pitcher for Slippery Rock University’s baseball team, headlined a list of five SRU players named today to National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Preseason All-Atlantic Region and All-America honors.

Oglesby received first-team Preseason All-Region and honorable mention All-America honors.

Lou Trivino, an undecided major from Greenlane and also a pitcher, and John Shaffer, a criminology and criminal justice major from Tyrone and first baseman, were named to second-team all-region honors. Carter Haponski, an information technology major from Ford City and an outfielder, and Zach Jeney, a safety management major from California, Pa., and a pitcher, were named to honorable mention all-region honors.

The team, coached by Jeff Messer, opens its 2012 season away Feb. 18 with a doubleheader against Ohio Valley University of West Virginia at VA Memorial Stadium, Chillicothe, Ohio. The season’s home opener at Jack Critchfield Park is a March 18 doubleheader against Gannon University.
