SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University Center for Student Involvement and Leadership has again been asked by the American Red Cross to coordinate a blood drive and has put together a "We Challenge U" drive for Feb 10. The goal is to collect 100 units.
The drive is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Smith Student Center Ballroom.
SRU is "challenging" other colleges and universities in the Greater Alleghenies Region, including St. Francis, West Virginia, Shippensburg, Fairmont State and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, to host similar drives.
Participants must be age 17 or older, weigh more than 110 pounds and be in good general health. Donors will receive a Red Cross T-shirt, while supplies last.
Appointments may be made by visit the CSIL Office in the Student Center or by email to: email@example.com. Walk-ins will be accepted.
The CSIL needs both community and campus donors to meet its goal, said Laurel Dagnon, CSIL program director. "Because of Slippery Rock University's donation numbers in past drives, SRU is again in the running to be named 'College of the Year' by the American Red Cross."
"Slippery Rock University has an extremely close relationship with the West Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross with two members of the campus community sitting on its board of directors. Our local communities have benefitted tremendously from the on-going partnership between the University and the Red Cross," she said.
"Over the years, SRU donors have saved thousands of lives through their donations of blood," said board members Dagnon and Carol Holland, director of the SRU Counseling Center.
Slippery Rock University is Pennsylvania's premier public residential university.
