SRU Good News for Feb. 1, 2012

SRU freshman’s zoo picture graces Jones Soda bottles

Anyone picking up a Jones Green Apple soda bottle at a grocery or convenience store should look at the label. It could be one featuring a photo taken by Sydney Domville, a first-year Slippery Rock University exploratory student from Warren.

Domville found out Jan. 31 the photograph she had taken while on a Pittsburgh Zoo visit would be used by the soft drink company. Her name will also be on the label.

“I love Jones Soda,” Domville said. “I buy it at my local grocery store and at Walmart, and they even carried at Taylor & Byrnes coffee shops on campus.”

The company sponsors an ongoing contest for label photos. They accept submissions then vote on them in-house before allowing votes by the general public, Domville said. According to a letter Domville received from the company, her label received sufficient votes of approval, and she expects to see her label on store shelves any day.

The Jones Soda Co., begun in 1987 as Urban Juice and Soda Co. Ltd., by Peter van Stolk, changed its name in 2000. The company capitalizes on the potential of emerging "alternative" products in the beverage industry. The company also has a customize label program for weddings, graduations and other special events.
