Two former SRU runners capture unofficial Georgia race title

Patrick Reagan, a 2010 Slippery Rock University exercise science graduate, and Jeff Weiss, a 2009 SRU health and physical education graduate, took top honors in the 10K Critz Tybee Run Fest on Tybee Island, Ga., according to the online SavannahNow report.

Both runners earned All-America honors while SRU students. The pair had not competed against one another since 2008.

The online report says the SRU graduates now have the unofficial record for Georgia’s men’s open record for the10K road race hosted at the Critz Tybee Run Fest. The official record stands at 29 minutes, 56.8 seconds, with Reagan finishing this year at 29:51.86, and Weiss at 29:52.01, in second-place. The online news reports race director Robert Espinoza as saying the official record would not come until next year’s event when USA Track officials can measure the course and sanction the race.

The run was completed under cold, rainy morning conditions.
