Music education major wins Young Artist Competition
Tom Mahovsky, a Slippery Rock University music education major from Conneaut Lake, has won the 32nd Young Artist Competition sponsored by the Butler County Symphony Association.
Mahovsky, who plays the euphonium, will perform with the Butler County Symphony March 13 as a result.
SRU hosted the competition Jan. 23 in Swope Music Hall. The competition was open to instrumentalists and vocalists living within a 25-mile radius of Butler and students from Slippery Rock, Allegheny, Clarion, Geneva, Grove City, Thiel or Westminster universities. The competition is for musicians ages 25 or younger.
The symphony launched the Young Artists Competition to recognize students who are active in their schools’ music programs and to provide a performance opportunity.
