IUP honors SRU graduate with DeCoster Award

Justin Brown, a 2011 Slippery Rock University communication major from Coatsville and now a graduate student in the department of student affairs in higher education and graduate residence director for the Office of Housing, Residential Living and Dining at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, has received the David A. DeCoster Excellence in Assessment Award.

The award recognizes an outstanding assessment project completed by a member of the Student Affairs Division. DeCoster served as vice president for student affairs and as a faculty member in the department of student affairs in higher education during his tenure at IUP.

Brown’s project, titled “Academic Engagement Program,” focused on implementing and assessing strategies to enhance the learning environment in the residential communities of Pratt Hall, McCarthy Hall and University Towers.

The award was presented at a student affairs division workshop.
