SRU graduate earns CASE Volunteer Service Award

William Sonntag, a 1970 Slippery Rock University economics graduate and longtime member of the Slippery Rock University Foundation Inc. board of directors, has been awarded the Robert L Payton Award for Voluntary Service in the CASE District 2 awards program

Sonntag, of Slippery Rock, has been an active alumnus, including serving as president of the Slippery Rock University Alumni Association. He received the association’s Distinguished Service Award in 2000. He has been a member of the President’s Advisory Council and serves as the foundation board secretary and chair of its finance committee.

He has also received the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Eberly Award for Volunteerism. Now retired, he is best remembered as president and chief executive officer of First National Bank of Slippery Rock.

In the local community, he has served as chair of the Slippery Rock Development Corp. that created the Village at Slippery Rock and revitalized the look of the downtown.

Sonntag was presented the award at the annual Council for Advancement and Support for Education luncheon in New York City.
