Washington & Jefferson names SRU graduate head coach

Dale Boring, a 1994 Slippery Rock University exercise science graduate and a 1997 physical education master’s degree recipient, has been hired as head coach of the Washington & Jefferson College cross country and track and field teams.

Boring, who competed in both cross country and track and field for SRU, formerly served as head coach of the Mars High School cross country and track and field teams. He also coordinated the Get F.A.S.T. Camps to improve the skill levels of local youth.

Included in Boring's resume were his tutoring seven sprint event school record holders and the 2010 Section 4 Class AAA girls track and field championship as the head coach at Knoch High School in Saxonburg and coaching 23 PIAA state qualifiers and a WPIAL girls track and field team championship.

Boring also led the 2012 Mars boys cross country team to a silver-medal finish at the WPIAL championships and the following spring guided the Mars boys track and field team to its first playoff appearance while helping three student-athletes set new school records.

Through his speed training camps, Boring helped pave the road to two PIAA football state championship, one PIAA state runner-up finish and 18 high school district championships.

Boring is a certified strength and conditioning specialist.
