SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Art Becker, an Erie-based commercial photographer who has photographed former U.S. President Bill Clinton and the pope, among others, will lecture about his craft and show his photographs at 12:30 p.m., Feb. 18, at Slippery Rock University's Art Building.
The title of his presentation is "Every Picture Tells a Story." Becker, who switched to digital technology 12 years ago, said he would talk about his passion for photography and provide pointers for marketing images.
Becker, a professional photographer for 34 years, photographs people, architecture, nature and more specialized topics such as eyes, faith and what he calls passion color light.
"When I take a photograph, it's all about a moment with a subject, whether it's a homeless man, rock star or the pope," he said on his website. "What can I capture and share about this moment and can the people who see my work connect with this singular movement in time?"
Becker, an Erie native, studied photography at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale from 1977-1979 and started as a commercial photographer in Miami. Five years later, he returned to Erie.
Becker has won more than 75 local and national awards and been featured in articles in PEI Photography Magazine 2000 and View Camera Magazine. His images have appeared in Time, ESPN Magazine, The Water Channel, Hallmark cards and Faith Magazine.
Becker's lecture is free and open to the public, organized by the art department and the Martha Gault Art Society.
