Atlanta Falcons hire SRU graduate Eric Avila

Eric Avila, a 2010 Slippery Rock University athletic training graduate, has been hired as an assistant athletic trainer by the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League. Avila, who received his master’s degree in adapted physical activity from SRU in December, had been an intern with the Falcons.

A New York City native, Avila was the first person in his immediate family to earn a college degree.

At SRU, Avila served as a student athletic trainer for The Rock field hockey, track and field, cross-country and women’s tennis programs. His passed the Athletic Trainer Certification test in 2010.

Avila cited Bonnie Siple, assistant professor of exercise and rehabilitative sciences, as his Slippery Rock mentor.

SRU’s athletic training program prepares graduates with the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide care to athletes and the physically active.
