15 SRU indoor track and field members earn USTFCCCA honors

NEW ORLEANS - Nine women and six men on Slippery Rock University’s indoor track and field team have earned spots on the inaugural U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Regional teams.

                Named to the women’s team were: Whitney Hendershot from Salamanca, N.Y.; Kelly Bruder and Angela Schroeder, both from Pittsburgh; Crystal Burnick from Collegeville; Kelly Fischer from Camp Hill; Caitlin Hancox from Meadville; Jen Harpp from Highland Heights, Ohio; Rachel Knapp from Milton; and Kaela Snyder from North Olmsted, Ohio.

Named to the men’s team were: Ryan Camody and Cam Daugherty, both from Mililani, Hawaii; Terrece Draper from Nottingham; Kevin Jewel from North Versailles; Chris Warning from Monroeville; and Brady Wert from Walworth, N.J.

                This is the first season the USTFCCCA has given out all-region awards. A total of 1,039 athletes received 1,482 all-region nods in the inaugural class. The top five from each region in individual events and each member of a relay ranked in the region’s top three have earned the All-Region distinction for the 2011 indoor season.

                Wert, Daugherty and Hendershot will represent SRU March 11-12 at the Division II National Championships with the remainder of the track team beginning the outdoor season Saturday at the Coastal Warm-Up Meet in Myrtle Beach S.C.
