‘Graduation Celebration’ includes ticket distribution

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Student Government Association Bookstore at Slippery Rock University will host a “Graduation Celebration” March 29 offering opportunities to purchase commencement regalia, order announcements and pick up commencement tickets.

           The event will run 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the University Union Lobby.

           Representatives from various campus offices related to commencement will be on hand to answer questions. A bookstore-sponsored raffle is planned.

           Those who have completed their graduation application will be able to pick up four admission tickets to the appropriate commencement ceremony. Those who do not attend the celebration will be able to pick up their commencement tickets from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 1-5, in the University Public Relations Office, 201 Old Main.

           “At the request of previous graduates, we have revamped this year’s ticket distribution system,” said Rita Abent, executive director of public relations and commencement director.

           “In the past, extra tickets were not available until after rehearsal the day before commencement, thus graduating seniors had little time to invite additional family and friends. We are now making any extra tickets available beginning at 8:30 a.m., April 16 and will distribute them (two per student) until the supply is exhausted.”

           “Because of the new system, it is imperative that those who want their initial four-ticket allocation pick them up at the Graduation Celebration or April 1-5. Tickets not picked up during this period will become the ‘extra tickets,’” she said.

           Seating will be limited at both ceremonies. However, those without tickets will be encouraged to watch the live broadcast of the ceremonies in the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center. The ceremonies will also be live-streamed on the Internet.

           Special ticket arrangements have already been made for those undertaking their student teaching or doctor of physical therapy internships.

           The May 12 Morrow Field House commencement schedule is as follows:

·         10:30 a.m.: Graduates from all graduate studies programs and those from the College of Health, Environment and Science and the College of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts;

·         2 p.m.: Graduates from the College of Business, Information and Social Sciences and the College of Education

All graduates are expected to attend the 12:30 p.m., May 11, rehearsal in Morrow Field House to pick up their authorization to walk card.
