SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -Drum roll: The Slippery Rock University Percussion Ensemble and Panorama group will demonstrate their chops in contemporary, Caribbean and classical drumming when they perform at 7:30 p.m. April 4 in Swope Recital Hall.
The ensemble, directed by David Glover, associate professor of music and department chair, will perform pieces written for percussion instruments.
Glover said students would perform two classical pieces arranged for modern percussion instruments, a quartet for hand drums and a contemporary mallet keyboard ensemble piece.
"There will be some surprises," he said.
The second half of the concert will feature SRU’s Panorama, a steel pan ensemble. This group performs the music native to the island of Trinidad as well as contemporary pieces written or arranged for steel drums. This group is comprised of music majors and non-majors and is directed by Ryan Socrates, SRU instructor of music.
"This concert is always a crowd favorite," Glover said.
The suggested donation is $3 for SRU students and $5 for adults.
