National Dance Festival selects SRU dancer

Kaitlyn Dye, a Slippery Rock University dance major from Frostburg, Md., has been chosen to present solo choreography during the American College Dance Festival Association’s 15th Annual National College Dance Festival. Three pieces from the northeast region were invited to present May 24-27 in The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
Dye will perform “Fists Alone Are Only Hands.”

“From the 46 pieces presented for adjudication at the northeast region, Kaitlyn's piece was one of three selected by a panel of three nationally recognized dance professionals,” said Jennifer Keller, SRU assistant professor of dance.
"Kaitlyn is eligible to receive the Dance Magazine's Award for most outstanding choreography or performance," said Ursula Payne, SRU professor of dance.
SRU dance majors have performed at the festival twice before. Keller said dance majors were chosen in 2004 and 2010.
The American College Dance Festival Association offers one national dance festival every two years. The association works to promote and support college dance programs nationwide.
