Patrick Kennedy, a 2004 Slippery Rock University music education graduate, is in Germany this week competing in the Roland V-Drums World Championship.
Kennedy, now head band director at Fulmore Middle School in Austin, Texas, will also be demonstrating V-Drums which allow a drummer to synthesize new sounds and rhythms during a live performance and then layer them as part of the Frankfurt event. The 10-day festival draws nearly 250,000 people with original music and independent films.
“You can manipulate the sounds in an infinite number of ways to create whatever sounds you want,” Kennedy said in a recent Butler Eagle interview. “It's a whole new realm of possibility.”
Kennedy started drum lessons in the fourth grade and was giving lessons by age 15 while also playing in the Butler High School Marching Band and other area musical groups.
While at SRU, he participated in a number of musical ensembles.
He completed his master's degree in percussion performance at the University of Texas in Austin.
