Slippery Rock University’s financial aid officers have received praise from the U.S. Education Department for the relative ease with which they handled what could have been a disruptive switch last year in how federal student loan funds are disbursed.
"Your financial aid officers were able to quickly adapt and continued to seamlessly and effectively administer the financial aid programs on your campus," William J. Taggart, chief operating officer of the Federal Student Aid Office, wrote in a letter to Robert Smith, SRU president.
"Their dedication and professionalism throughout this period is commendable,” Taggart said.
Smith said he wasn't surprised by the Doe's praise.
“Our Financial Aid Office, headed by Patty Hladio, is outstanding. They are consummate professionals who always go above and beyond in serving the needs of our students,” Smith said.
The SRU Financial Aid Office processes more than 7,000 loan applications annually.
