SRU hosts indie-folk band The Hunts

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -The Hunts, an indie-folk band from the southlands of Chesapeake, Va., will travel to Slippery Rock University for a 4 p.m., April 28, performance that concludes the 2012-13 SRU Performing Arts Series.

The performance, set in a café-style seating plan, will be in the University Union Multi-Purpose Room.

The family-group is driven by a passion for creating compelling music. Comprised of seven brothers and sisters, the family brings to the stage chemistry and a powerful presence.

All of the Hunts, who are talented vocalists and multi-instrumentalists, were instilled with a love of music from a very young age.

Their songs are driven by violin, acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, mandolin, ukulele and piano - rounded out with crisp harmonies.

The Hunts have completed seven U.S. tours, including performances in 42 states. They have traveled worldwide for more than 10 years.

Last November, the group released their newest album, "We Were Young," featuring 10 original songs. The album's first track "Make This Leap" has received airplay from key market radio stations.

In addition to being champion fiddlers, the Hunts are also world-ranked step dancers. A step-dancing workshop will be available to local children from 1:45-2:45 p.m. for those planning to attend the performance. Pre-registration is required and may be completed by calling 724.738.2018.

AVI, the campus contract food vendor, will offer food items, including chicken tenders, hot dogs, grilled chicken sandwiches, roasted vegetable wraps, fresh vegetables with dip, caramel corn and ice cream novelties.

Performance tickets are $20 for adults; $18 for seniors; $15 for youth; and $8 for SRU student. Tickets may be ordered by calling 724.738.2018.
