SRU plans financial aid help sessions

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -Financial aid, including scholarship and loans, has been in the news in recent months. In response, Slippery Rock University's Office of Financial Aid will sponsor two workshops to provide students and their families with up-to-date information.

The first session, from noon to 6 p.m., April 16, in 213 Bailey Library, is designed to offer help in preparing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, best known as "FAFSA."

Financial aid representatives will be available to assist with filing the FAFSA.

The deadline to file the FASFA for maximum aid consideration is May 1, said Patricia Hladio, director of SRU's Office of Financial Aid.

The second session, "Student Loan Question-and-Answer Day" will run from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30 in the Smith Student Center.

Representatives from the SRU Financial Aid Office and PNC Bank will be available to answer questions about education funding, student loans and student debt.

Hladio said students and their parents may have heard of possible changes regarding federal Pell Grants used to support higher education as well as increases in student loan rates from some lenders. The sessions are intended to cull fact from rumor.
