QUANTICO, Va. – Col. Keith Givens, U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations commander and a 1986 Slippery Rock University political science graduate, will be sworn in as a brigadier general in the Air Force at ceremonies planned for May 7.
President Barack Obama nominated Givens for the post.
Givens works in the Air Force's Office of the Inspector General at the Pentagon serving as the director of special investigations where he assists the AFOSI commander in the oversight of the command's global operations.
He has had a broad and varied career spanning more than 27 years with multiple command positions, including a recent assignment as AFOSI's vice commander.
Givens entered the Air Force in 1986 as a Distinguished Graduate from the AFROTC program at Slippery Rock University. He was selected for duty as an AFOSI special agent and in 1987, graduated from the US Air Force Special Investigations Academy in Washington, D.C.
In addition to his SRU degree, Givens earned a master of science in human resource management systems from Chapman University; a master of forensic sciences at AFIT-George Washington University; a masters of aerospace and leadership studies at Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell Air Force Base, and a master’s of national security studies at the National War College at Fort McNair, Washington D.C.
He has earned the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with one oak leaf cluster
Southwest Asia Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal
He was promoted to the rank of colonel in 2007.
