SRU husband and wife alumni vie for Teacher of the Year Award
Just about every married couple has played games: Monopoly; Parcheesi, Yahtzee, Gin Rummy - and the competition can get fierce. But for Emily and Brian Quigley, married Slippery Rock University alumni, and both school teachers it is another story.
Both are competing for the Wake County [N.C.] Public School System's Teacher of the Year Award.
School officials report they can't recall ever having a husband and wife up for the same award in a single year.
Still, according to a story in the News & Observer newspaper in Raleigh, N.C., both are wishing each other well as the completion draws to an end. There are 26 other semifinalists who could also get the nod.
Emily Quigley graduated from SRU as a special education major, her husband as an elementary education major in 2007.
Married in 2010, both teach second grade in the Wake County district; she at Holly Springs Elementary; he at Lockhart Elementary.
Both are 28, and both say they are rooting for the other.
Slippery Rock University provides students with a comprehensive learning experience that intentionally combines academic instruction with enhanced educational and learning opportunities that make a positive difference in their lives.
