SRU president moderates debate

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -The Pro-Life organization at Slippery Rock University, will host a "Murder by Law? Pro-Life vs. Pro Choice Debate" at 7:30 p.m., April 22, in Spotts World Cultures Building Auditorium. Cheryl Norton, SRU president, will moderate the debate.

"We were talking in one of our meetings about how we could educate the campus more about what we believe and why we believe it and the idea of a debate came up," said Karissa Caylor, a communication major from Harrisburg and program organizer. "The overall goal of the event is to educate and to help students make an educated decision about where they stand on the issue."

Bonnie Schaffer from the Alpha Omega Center, a non-profit medical office in Slippery Rock that helps individual understand their options during pregnancy, will represent the pro-life side of the debate, and Heather Frederick, an SRU assistant professor of political science, will represent the pro-choice side.

The debate will be presented in cross-examination style with each speaker allowed five minutes to make her point. Five questions will then be presented to both sides.
