SRU graduate takes reins at Clairton City School District

Wayde Killmeyer, a 1998 Slippery Rock University secondary mathematics/science master’s degree graduate, will become the superintendent of the Clairton City School District effective July 1.

He had served as superintendent of the Avella School District in Washington County since 2005, according to a news story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He had formerly served as the district’s junior-senior high school principal.

Killmeyer replaces Lucille Abellonio, who is retiring.

In addition to his SRU degree, Killmeyer earned a doctorate in educational leadership from Duquesne University, a masters in English literature from the University of Maryland and a bachelor's degree in computer science and a bachelor's degree in math, both from the University of Pittsburgh.
