Rock baseball team earns conference tournament berth
The Slippery Rock University baseball team, coached by Jeff Messer, earned its seventh consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Baseball Championship berth with a 4-0 win Saturday over California University of Pennsylvania at Jack Critchfield Park.
The win came in the second game of a PSAC-Western Division doubleheader and assured The Rock of a fourth-place finish in the division standings.
The Rock will take a 24-23-1 record into their 12:30 p.m., Wednesday game against PSAC-Eastern Division champion West Chester University in the tournament, which will be played at Pullman Park in Butler.
Tournament action continues through Saturday with the conference champion being awarded an automatic berth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tournament.
Tickets for the PSAC Baseball Championship are $7 for a single-day adult ticket and $2 for a student all-day ticket. Students at PSAC-member institutions are admitted free on presentation of a valid student ID.
Four games are scheduled for each of the first three days of the tournament with the first game each day set to start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday is the final day of the tournament and will include between one and three games, depending on the outcome of games played Friday.
