SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -
Educate To Career Inc., a California-based nonprofit, has included Slippery Rock University in its top 50 school as part of the 2014 ETC College Rankings Index, an outcome-based rankings index for the real world.
SRU was chosen from 1,222 schools included in this year's report.
The ETC College Rankings Index focuses on outcome and empirically determines the economic value added by each of the more than 1,000 colleges ranked by the system.
"We calculate the improvement in earnings and employability of persons who attended specific colleges, relative to persons who are similarly situated in other colleges," said Michael Havis, ETC founder.
He said his firm invented the ETC College Rankings Index to serve students.
"Young people are entitled to reliable facts upon which to make informed decisions regarding college selection. We are interested in real-world outcomes for college graduates - based on their majors and the colleges that they graduate from," Havis said.
The index provides what he calls "actionable information" for students looking for a quality education, in majors that lead to successful career outcomes.
Educate To Career was founded to provide high school students with free, online navigator and calculator programs to ultimately guide them to a real career - defined as one in which their education leads to a real job with a good salary.
Havis said, Educate To Career is the leader in providing information, data, tools and programs in the area of college and career outcomes.
