SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -Everyone knows that "time is money," and if you don't spend the "time," it is going to cost "money" for failing to reach the required 70-point minimum in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education's employee "Healthy U" wellness program. The deadline is May 31.
Covered employees with PASSHE Group Health Plan through Highmark have until the end of the month to complete the program that will result in reduced premium costs for the coming year.
"Failure to complete the Healthy U program can cost individuals hundreds of dollars, and families thousands," said Marcia Kotek, benefits and transactions manager in Slippery Rock University's Office of Human Resources.
"With less than a month left to complete registrations, only about 25 percent of our covered employees have signed up," she said.
"Those who register for the program save on the health insurance premium deducted from their paycheck," she said.
The savings amounts to about 40 percent, or about $1,775 per year for family coverage, she said.
Employees and their covered spouse or same-sex domestic partner, must complete the requirements annually to retain the premium reduction earned through participation.
Like previous years, enrollment requires earning 70 points, with 30 points awarded for completing the Wellness Profile to begin the program. The profile is a comprehensive survey covering all aspects of the participant's health and healthy practices.
Additional points can be earned from preventative exams, an influenza inoculation, online or telephone coaching programs and a number of wellness-related programs that were offered on campus worth Healthy U Points.
"The state system has mailed a brochure and information to all covered employees," Kotek said.
Enrollment in Healthy U can be completed online at http://www.highmarkblueshield.com.
Those who have previously used the system use their same login ID and password; those new to the system should follow the "Register Now" option. Those who have forgotten their login information can call 1.877.298.3918.
The savings will apply July 1 through June 30, 2014.
