SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Ryan Wirth, a community programs for Americans with disabilities major from Gibsonia, has been selected as one of 20 students around the world to serve a two-year term on the Best Buddies International Young Leaders Council.
The council engages young adults with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities around the world to represent school friendship programs and serve as a liaison between Best Buddies International and their community.
Wirth is a member of Best Buddies Slippery Rock University and Best Buddies Pennsylvania.
In informing Wirth of his appointment, BBI officials wrote, “We were particularly impressed with your leadership experience and your dedication to the Best Buddies mission. Thank you again for applying; we are excited to have you on board.”
Wirth will serve during the council’s inaugural year beginning in July. The council is expected to brainstorm on how Best Buddies International can improve programs and initiate new programs within Best Buddies organization internationally.
“We will be holding conference calls quarterly and each student will serve on a certain committee such as; Friendship Walk, BBI Leadership Conference, communications or program initiatives,” Wirth said. “I am extremely excited to be getting this opportunity to impact the entire Best Buddies program.”
