The Slippery Rock University baseball team, under the direction of Jeff Messer, 28-year head coach, earned a conference-best eighth consecutive trip to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships last weekend by finishing in a tie for fourth place in the PSAC-Western Division final standings.
The team is in the conference tournament for the 20th time in the last 24 seasons and the 23rd time under Messer's leadership.
The Rock, the No. 4 seed from the PSAC-West, takes a 31-19 overall record into their first-round game at 6:30 p.m., May 8, against 20th-ranked Millersville University (36-14), the PSAC-Eastern Division champion.
A win would move SRU into the 6:30 p.m. May 9 game against either Gannon University (23-17) or East Stroudsburg University (29-16). A loss in the opening round would drop SRU into the 12:30 p.m. May 9 game against Gannon or East Stroudsburg.
The conference tournament runs Wednesday through Saturday at Point Stadium in Johnstown. Tickets are $7 for an all-day (four-game pass) and free for students with a valid ID from a PSAC institution.
