LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Ashley Samlu, a Slippery Rock University secondary education major from Erie, Emily Lobdell, an early childhood education major from Warren, and Eliza Sykes, a sport management major from Easton, all standouts on the SRU softball team, have been awarded Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference All-PSAC Western Division honors.
Samluk was selected as the top third baseman in the PSAC-West by the league's coaches, earning first-team honors, while pitcher Lobdell and centerfielder Sykes were selected for second-team honors.
Samluk had a breakout year at the plate in her first full season as The Rock's third baseman and clean-up hitter. She led the team with a .355 batting average, .581 slugging percentage and .397 on base percentage. She also recorded team highs of 20 runs scored, 44 hits, seven doubles and seven home runs. She went two-for-two in stolen base attempts, recorded 21 RBIs and posted a .963 fielding percentage.
Lobdell was honored for posting the best season of her four-year career. She anchored the pitching staff with a 3.29 ERA and 9-11 record in 29 appearances. She posted team-highs of 16 complete games, two shutouts, 94 strikeouts, 153 innings and held opponents to a .266 batting average. Her 153 innings and 94 strikeouts were each seventh best in the PSAC.
Sykes broke into her first season at SRU and was second on the team with a .297 batting average and 14 runs scored. She led the team with seven stolen bases and added 30 hits and five RBIs from the leadoff spot.
The Rock finished the 2014 season with a 16-26 overall record and narrowly missed a berth in the PSAC Tournament after placing fifth in the division standings with an 11-16 record.
