SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa - Kelly Werner, a Slippery Rock University art major from Butler, has won the local round of an “Alcohol Awareness” video and poster contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Statewide Coalition for the Prevention and Reduction of Underage Binge Drinking. Her work is now entered in the systemwide contest.
Werner is a graphic artist student worker in SRU’s University Public Relations Office graphics department.
The social media project, funded by a U.S. Department of Education Grant, includes a $200 award on the local level. The systemwide winning poster includes a cash award and distribution to all 14 state system campuses.
Werner’s colorful, modern art poster, titled “Color Party” carried the phrase “You don’t need alcohol for your party to be colorful.”
The contest was promoted to students and various departments on campus, according to Renee Bateman, health promotions coordinator in the McLachlan Student Health Center and campus contact for the competition.
Bateman said at minimum Werner’s poster would be posted on the coalition’s webpage, http://www.passhe.edu/inside/asa/resources/underagedrinking/Pages/Addressing-Underage-Drinking.aspx, and printed and distributed on the SRU campus for fall semester.
