Eastern Michigan picks SRU graduate as new associate VP

Slippery Rock University – Calvin Phillips, a 1991 Slippery Rock University masters of arts in student personnel graduate, has been named associate vice president for student affairs at Eastern Michigan University.
He will assume the post June 16, following final approval by the university's board of regents.
Phillips is currently vice president for student affairs at Northern State University.
At Eastern, he will provide leadership and management of several offices that plan and administer non-academic and co-curricular aspects of the student experience. These efforts are focused on engaging and advancing student development, learning, student retention and the overall success of Eastern Michigan University's more than 23,000 students.
He will be responsible for overseeing residential life and housing; student well-being; new student orientation and campus life; student conduct; international student services; diversity and community involvement; and, the Children's Institute.
Phillips earned his bachelor of science in secondary education social studies at Oklahoma State University and his doctorate of education in administration and leadership studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
