Slippery Rock University has been named the “University of the Year” in the Greater Alleghenies Region by the American Red Cross.
The University will be honored at the region’s annual meeting June 5 at the CONSOL Energy Center in Pittsburgh.
SRU was nominated for its five successful blood drives that collected more than 700 pints of blood.
Kraig Kesner, the region’s donor recruitment representative, nominated the University for the honor.
The drives were organized by SRU’s Center for Student Involvement and Leadership, AmeriCorps program students and the SRU Red Cross Club. Other clubs and organizations signed on as partners for individual drives.
Brian Boyle, a blood recipient and donor, triathlete and author of “Iron Heart,” and John Hagins, chief executive officer of the Greater Alleghenies Blood Services Region, will be the luncheon speakers.
