SRU tennis player earns Capital One Academic honor

Janelle Krantz, a Slippery Rock University therapeutic recreation major from Quarryville and member of the tennis team, has been awarded Capital One Academic All-District honors by the College Sports Information Director's of America.

By way of earning the honor, Krantz will advance to the ballot for Capital One Academic All-America honors, where she is looking to earn her second award in the last two years. Winners will be announced July 5.

Krantz was one of only 10 females in District II to be named to the Academic All-District squad and is making her second consecutive appearance on the list. District II includes all schools in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

She made the At Large team, which includes the sports of field hockey, lacrosse, tennis, bowling, crew, golf, fencing, rifle, skiing, water polo and swimming.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, maintain above a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and have significant athletic credentials. Krantz has a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She will graduate this summer.

On the courts, Krantz posted a 17-8 record in doubles and an 11-12 singles record as a senior. She was 10-7 as a singles player at the No. 4 position and was 14-5 at the No. 2 doubles position.

The Capital One Academic All-District team is nominated for and voted on by members of CoSIDA in the Atlantic Region, District II.
