SRU prepares for NLNAC review

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's nursing department is preparing for its continuing accreditation review by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission and is preparing its self-study.

In addition to hosting a site review of its baccalaureate nursing program, it is inviting public comment on its program. The public, including those on campus, are invited to meet the visit team in person at 1 p.m., Oct. 3, in 106 Vincent Science Center. Those planning to attend should contact Deborah Kosciuszko at 724.738.2368 for information about obtaining a parking pass.

"We believe our self-study report will meet and exceed the visitor's standards and ensure that our program meets the NLNAC's high standards," said Diana Jones, assistant professor of nursing and chair of the department. "We constantly look to keep our program current in all phases of nursing, and we believe our program consistently provides our students with a quality education that prepares them to meet today's challenges in the world of nursing."

The SRU nursing program has been accredited by the Atlanta, Ga.-based, NLNAC since 1981 and was last evaluated and approved in 2005.

The NLNAC is responsible for the specialized accreditation of nursing education programs, including clinical doctorate, masters, baccalaureate, associate, diploma and practical programs.

The 15-member commission, which oversees the accreditation process has authority and accountability for carrying out the responsibilities inherent in the application of standards and criteria, accreditation processes, and the affairs, management, policy-making and general administration of the NLNAC.

The nationally recognized NLNAC is a specialized accrediting agency for both post-secondary and higher degree programs.
