– Noreen Herlihy, Slippery Rock University head women’s soccer coach, has been enshrined in the Massasoit Community College Athletic Hall of Fame in Brockton.
Herlihy played soccer and basketball for Massasoit during the 1988-90 seasons before transferring to Mercyhurst College to play soccer. She was enshrined in the Mercyhurst Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Massasoit hall over the summer.
A standout on both the soccer field and the basketball court at Massasoit, Herlihy led both teams to success and garnered postseason accolades in each sport.
In 1988, the soccer team placed second in the NJCAA Regional Tournament. The next fall, Herlihy led the team to its first NJCAA New England Championship.
Much of her success at Massasoit came on the basketball court, where she earned NJCAA All-America honors after leading the team to an MCCAC State Championship. She was also named to the All-Region team, selected as the region’s Most Outstanding Offensive Player and was honored on the All-Academic team for her efforts in the classroom.
Herlihy enters her 17th season as head coach of The Rock’s women’s soccer program this fall. She enters the year just five wins shy of 200 career victories with an overall record of 195-92-22.
