NEW ORLEANS, La. – Alpha Kappa Psi, professional business fraternity at Slippery Rock University, received three top awards at the organization’s national convention in New Orleans earlier this month.
The local chapter received the Outstanding Alumni Outreach Programming award for its “Brothers Calling Brothers” fundraising program; the Chapter Performance Award for its chapter activities; and the Membership Performance award for its membership growth.
Kimberly Arntz, a senior marketing major from Elizabethtown, gave the opening remarks and introduced participating dignitaries at the convention’s Grand Banquet.
An intern in SRU’s Annual Giving Office, Arntz organized the fraternity’s award-winning calling program.
Arntz has been a student worker in SRU’s Annual Giving Office for the past three years. She began as a Phonathon caller and advanced to student supervisor. As an intern, she will assist with the student philanthropy organization, Rocky’s Raisers.
She served as secretary for the SRU Alpha Kappa Psi chapter and presented the idea of calling SRU alumni who were members of the professional business fraternity while they were students to fundraise for the fraternity. She obtained the names of all SRU AKP former members from the organization’s national office.
Using her experience as a Phonathon caller, she modified the telephone script and with fellow AKP members called 214 former members to update them about the current status of AKP.
The calls generated nearly $1,000 in pledges.
