SRU’s Susan Herman earns YMCA Volunteer of the Year honor

Susan Herman, Slippery Rock University assistant professor of exercise science, has been named Volunteer of the Year for Healthy Living by the Grove City YMCA.

The honor is awarded to a community member who exemplifies healthy living, advocates for exercise and is actively engaged in the community.

Herman has been an active member of the local Y for 25 years and is an advocate for exercise and healthy living through her volunteerism in the community and the school district. She models healthy behaviors by volunteering to teach a variety of exercise classes at the Y and SRU, according YMCA officials. In addition, she volunteers in the community through providing wellness presentations to local and regional organizations.

Herman serves the Grove City School District as a member of the school health committee and as an invited keynote speaker for wellness events.

At SRU, Herman has volunteered to organize Major Fitness, a group fitness program for exercise science majors. The program advocates healthy behaviors by engaging SRU students in an active lifestyle that reinforces the idea that “Exercise is Medicine.”
