SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -Corey Greenwood, a Slippery Rock University communication major from Belle Vernon, has earned accolades from the Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce office for helping plan events that are increasing the organization’s social media efforts.
Greenwood, who is serving as a summer intern with the chamber and will graduate this month from SRU, was the subject of a recent Pittsburgh Tribune-Review story
He was credited with “helping with the group's mission to provide networking and educational opportunities to members and to advocate economic development activities.” He planned the chamber’s “Beach Bash” that allowed chamber members to network in a marina atmosphere. He is also working on a “Saloons and Salons” community event in Charleroi. Other duties in the job included writing news releases, sending an email newsletter and undertaking clerical work.
The internship gave him the opportunity to work and learn about a nonprofit organization.
“It was really our luck that we were able to put him on our staff for the summer,” Deb Keefer, executive director, said. “Greenwood's public relations education is helpful for marketing and events. He is very, very well versed in e-mail marketing, Facebook, social media. He is just so up-to-date with all the technology.”
The Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce represents 305 businesses in Westmoreland, Washington, Fayette and Allegheny counties and works to enhance the quality of life and business climate in the mid-Mon Valley.
