SRU music therapy program adds clinic

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University has been selected to host the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education 2012 Diversity Summit "Inclusive Excellence and International Education: Charting the Future Together."

The event, planned by members of the Council on Social Equity, Campus Climate and Inclusion and the PASSHE International Education Consortium will be Nov. 15-16.

"We think the event will draw more than 200 participants," said Jessamine Montero Michaels, senior officer for diversity and inclusion. "We do a great deal of effective inclusion work on our campus and hosting the summit this year only highlights our campuswide outcomes. We are accepting presentation proposals through Sept. 11. I encourage SRU faculty, staff, graduate students and undergraduates to consider submitting presentation proposals. We have a true desire to hear from a larger student and international contingency at this year's summit, hence the theme for our conference."

Proposals may be submitted at:

"We hope that faculty will join us in looking at opportunities to foster diversity, international education and access and success measures throughout our institutions," said Peter Garland, PASSHE executive vice chancellor.

Keynote speakers for the summit will focus on the role attention to diversity and international perspectives play in student success.

Alma Clayton-Pederson, senior scholar with the American Association of Colleges and Universities, will deliver a keynote address describing high-impact practices, and Bennett Cooper, a graduate of Millersville University, will speak on international education.

Updates and progress on the CUE Equity Scorecard project, a major component of last year's Summit, will be reported.

Peer-reviewed presentations by PASSHE faculty, social equity officers, multicultural affairs staff, international education directors, human resources managers, and other interested individuals will report on research, program design and success, and professional perspectives.

PASSHE-wide affinity groups in the areas of diversity/inclusion and international programs/perspectives will be provided opportunities to meet during the summit.
